Abstract
The effect of exogenous supply of IAA and GA3 at various concentrations ranging from 100–2000 ppm, in aqueous form, was studied on the dormant lenticels of Melia azedarach L., in three year old dormant stem cuttings, during the winters of 1971–72 and 1972–73, at room temperature ranging from 23–27° C. It was found that both IAA and GA3 were capable of activating the dormant lenticel meristems, independently to various degrees, depending on the concentration of the compound.IAA induced increasing number of lenticels with increasing concentration. But GA3 brought the maximum number of lenticels into activity when supplied at a level of 500 ppm. the optimum dosage. Similar treatments with higher concentrations of GA3 was found to be not conducive for lenticel activity in Melia azedarach.
