Abstract

Objective:To study the effect of finasteride on the expression of VEGF,Flt-1 and the MVD in benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods:BPH cases was divided into 2 groups; finaster/de treatment group and non.Immtmohistochemical staining(S-P) was used to examine MVD and the expression of VEGF,Flt-1 in BPH. Results:The positive rate of VEGF in the treatment group was 68.4%; the positive rate of VEGF in the non treatment group was 57%. Statistic significance existed between the two groups (P〈0.05). The expression of Flt-1 was all positive . MVD was 6.89±2.54 in finasteride treated group and 9.17±3.63 in nontreatment group. Statistic significance of both VEGF and MVD expression existed in the two groups(P〈0.05). Conclusions: Finasteride could downregulate the synthesis and expression of VEGF, which inhibit the angiogenesis in BPH, but has less impact on Flt-1. Key words: Benign prostatic hyperplasia; Vascular endothelial growth factor; Fins-like tyrosine kinase receptor; Microvessel density ; Immunohistochemistry; Finasteride.
