Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of different doses of finasteride on transurethral vaporization of prostate in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods Seventy-six patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) who underwent transurethral vaporization of the prostate (TUVP) from February 2017 to February 2018 in Maoming Agricultural Reclamation Hospital were selected according to the preoperative use of finasteride, and 20 patients in the control group, finasteride was not taken before surgery. In the low-dose group, 26 patients received finasteride 5 mg/d before operation, and 30 patients in the high-dose group received finasteride 10 mg/d before operation. Compared relevant clinical indicators and quality of life scores in the three groups. Results There was no significant difference in the weight of the prostate among the three groups (P>0.05). The blood loss, bleeding intensity, bleeding index and operation time of the low-dose group and the high-dose group were lower than those in the control group (P 0.05). After operation, the overall health, physical pain, energy and physiological function scores of the low-dose group and the high-dose group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and which of the high-dose group was higher than that of the low-dose group (P<0.05). Conclusions Preoperative application of 10 mg/d finasteride in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia can effectively reduce intraoperative blood loss and improve postoperative quality of life. Key words: Benign prostatic hyperplasia; Vaporization of the prostate, transurethral; Maximum urinary flow rate; Finasteride
