Abstract

Twenty-eight female, water deprived rats were given 5 minutes pre-exposure access to sucrose for either 0, 6, 13 or 20 days. Beginning the following day, LiCl injections were given every third day until an aversion to the sucrose developed. The results indicated that as amount of preexposure to sucrose increased, it became increasingly more difficult to develop an aversion. Also, the rate of extinction of the conditioned aversion was directly related to amount of sucrose familiarization; increased familiarization facilitating extinction of aversion to sucrose.
