Abstract

This study investigated the general trends and relationships of children’s place attachment to their home, emotional intelligence, and place attachment to school, and this study investigated whether children’s place attachment to their home and emotional intelligence affect their place attachment to school. The subjects of this study were 337 children in grades 4, 5, and 6 of elementary school located in Gwangju Metropolitan City, Mokpo City, and Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do. The overall average of children’s place attachment to their home was 3.91, and emotional intelligence was 3.47, and the overall average of children’s place attachment to school was 3.65. Children’s place attachment to school is positively correlated with place attachment to home and emotional intelligence as a whole and with sub-variables of them. Children with higher place attachment to home and emotional intelligence had higher place attachment to school. Children’s place attachment to home and emotional intelligence had a significant effect on children’s place attachment to school. The influence of children’s emotional intelligence was relatively higher on their place attachment to school than place attachment to their home. Through the result of this study, we could find that it is necessary to cultivate and improve emotional intelligence and children’s place attachment to their home, which has a positive effect on school life.
