Abstract

It is increasingly recognized that physical environment plays a key role in children’s cognitive and social development by providing opportunities for exploration and interaction. In this paper, five patterns of childcare spatial definition are summarized: openness and visibility, enclosure and private, variety and flexibility, concentration and separation, size and amount. And discussed two physical environment factors that affect children’s development: furniture and materials and spatial organization.
