Abstract
Abstract Electrical stimulation of the striatum and of areas above the caudate nucleus in the monkey is shown to prevent conditioned bar-pressing and to interrupt this task at any stage of its performance. The importance of frequency of stimulation for movement inhibition is emphasized and threshold differences are observed for the 5 successive motor components of the bar-pressing task. The relationship between behavioral and evoked cortical activity is discussed.
