Abstract

Aim: To compare the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat (POST) in sleeve gastrectomy using a 36F bougie and a 34F bougie. Methods: Forty patients scheduled for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy were enrolled in the study. Patients were divided into two groups based on the size of the French bougie that was used. A 36F bougie was used in Group 1 and a 34F bougie was used in Group 2. Each group consisted of 20 patients. Initial endotracheal tube (ETT) cuff pressure was set to 25 mmHg following intubation. ETT cuff pressure was continually monitored in both groups. The peak airway pressure and ETT cuff pressure were recorded every 5 min. Laryngoscopy and bougie complications, surgery duration, and bougie duration were also recorded. POST incidence was assessed as none, moderate, and severe. Results: The demographic variables, Mallampati scores, and bougie durations were similar between the two groups. No laryngoscopy or bougie complications were observed in either group. The duration of surgery...
