Abstract
THE EFFECT OF BIXIN AND CAROTENE ON THE OXIDATION OF METHYL LINOLEATE
Highlights
An antioxygenic effect is exhibited by bixin in the early phases of the light-catalyzed oxidation of linoleate
Bixin acts synergistically with cr-tocopherol to enhance its antioxidant activity and produces a markedly extended induction period. This activity appears to be caused by the unaltered carotenoid
A latent acceleration of the reaction without tocopherol appears to be the result of the action of decomposition products of bixin
Summary
LINOLEATE candles on the bottom of the manometric vessels. In order to prevent moisture condensation on the bottom of the bath and to dissipate some of the heat given off by the lamps, an electric fan was placed so that the stream of air would blow across the surface of the lamps.
