Abstract
Crystallization kinetics of the cordierite-type (MgAl 1.83S 2.25O y ) glass with the BaO addition ( X molar ratio) in the powder form has been studied by non-isothermal DTA. Formation of multiphase corresponding to various BaO content was investigated by X-diffraction technique. Addition of small amount of BaO ( X ≤ 3%) to the cordierite-based glass could suppress the crystallization of the α-cordierite phase. Enstatite and hexacelsian phases were the predominant phase with the increase of BaO content in the range of 3% < X < 8% and X ≥ 8%, respectively
