Abstract
Finite difference numerical analyses were carried out for the Pr = 0 fluid in an open boat heated from the left-hand side wall and cooled from the opposite vertical wall. The computations were carried out for an open boat with an aspect ratio (horizontal length of the boat/vertical height) of 2 to 5. The critical Grashof number for the oscillatory natural convection was determined for each value of the aspect ratio. The computed values agreed well with previous experimental results by Skafel and theoretical results by Winters.
