Abstract

Abstract Dislocation arrangements in plastically deformed austenitio stainless steel developed under tension have been compared with those resulting from compression. The effect of stress mode and orientation on substructure has been interpreted as an efiect of applied stress on the equilibrium separation of Shockley partial dislocations and thereby on the extent of cross slip.
