Abstract
Abstract a -Factor, unlike α-factor, does not significantly enhance hybrid formation by protoplast fusion in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. When Mat α cells are treated with a -factor prior to being proto-plasted and fused, the frequency of hybrid formation is only slightly increased over unarrested controls.
