Abstract

The effect law of different hydrostatic pressures on the corrosion resistance of multilayer Cr/GLC coatings in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was studied by in-situ electrochemical measurements and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The results indicated that hydrostatic pressure exponentially reduces the corrosion resistance of multilayer Cr/GLC coatings, which is attributed to hydrostatic pressure decreasing the thickness of the stern layer within the electric double layer (EDL) at the solution/coating and solution/metal substrate interfaces and hydrostatic pressure linearly promotes Cl- adsorption on the coating surface, which together promotes the dissolution of the metal transition Cr layer and the metal substrate. Hydrostatic pressure promotes the linear increase in the porosity of the coating and decreases the denseness of the coating surface.
