Abstract

Early corrosion of Ni-Cr-Mo-V high strength steel under hydrostatic pressure and tensile stress was investigated by microstructure characterization and electrochemical measurements. The main results show that plastic deformation has a double effect:-similar to the effect of hydrostatic pressure, the anodic current increases due to changes of the electrical double layer. This increase in current can be calculated by Gutman’s theory;-the other effect is to damage the corrosion film coherent with the steel matrix.This synergism between plastic deformation and hydrostatic pressure further promotes the corrosion of Ni-Cr-Mo-V alloy.
