Abstract

∗ The research for this paper was conducted by the socioeconomics group at the Research Institute for Animal Production (Balat Penelitian Ternak. Bogor. and is part of the Small Ruminant Collaborative Research Support Program. a USAID funded program in which a number of US research Institutions are cooperating with the Research Institute for Animal Production in Indonesia The ultimate goa1 of this program is to increase the food supply and raise the income of smallholders engaged in small ruminant production The authors wish to thank the staff of the Center of Research Institutes for Animal Science (CRIAS) for assistance with the research reported here and for comments on earlier drafts of the paper Drh.
