Abstract
This book describes a "treatment study of intellectually capable students who drop out of high school." The authors are working at the Scholarship and Guidance Association, a counseling agency specializing in the treatment of the emotional and educational problems of adolescents. The authors impress upon the reader the acuteness of the problem that is facing the educator in this country: 40% of all students throughout the United States do not complete high school. The authors designed this study in order to test the validity of the following hypotheses: "(1) School problems generally, and early school-leaving specifically, are often aspects of emotional and personality disturbance in the student. (2) Casework treatment can improve school performance by effecting a better emotional and social adjustment. (3) Casework treatment can prevent premature school-leaving, and (4) School itself has a psychodynamic meaning of a conflictual nature that is contributory
