Abstract

The article follows on the studies by the prominent authors inquiry-specialized on the teachers’ competences, and it further processes their findings emphasizing the inquiry-based instruction. The competences that are essential for the teacher to realize the quality inquiry-based instruction are empirically stated on the inquiry basis. It was empirically discovered that the most important competences are, among others, the competences to: motivate the pupils to learn through the inquiry-based activities; connect the inquiry-based activities with the practical life; demonstrate the inquiry-based activities to the pupils; interpret the process and the results of the inquiry-based activities; guarantee the safety during the realization of the inquiry-based activities; develop the pupils’ unaided discovery through the inquiry-based activities; develop the thinking of the pupils through the inquiry- based activities; connect the inquiry-based activities with the theory; and realize the inquiry-based activities in connection to the pupils’ existing knowledge and their concepts.
