Abstract

Absolute cross sections for double ionization of Ba+ by energy-resolved electrons have been measured from below threshold to 120 eV. The results are similar to those of Hirayama et al. (1987) except that considerable step-like structure was resolved in the ionization function for electron energies between 80 and 120 eV. The origin of this structure is discussed and it probably arises from excitation of a 4d electron followed, either by double autoionization, or by auto-double ionization.
