Abstract
An analysis is given of the effects of electromechanical compression (electrostriction) on the electrical characteristics of double-fixed-charge membranes. It is shown that the voltage-current characteristics of Chaua couallina, and in particular the punchthrough potential, as a function of temperature can be accounted for on the basis of the double-fixed-charge membrane model when electrostrictive effects are taken into account.
