Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 4: 101-106. The research of large mosses diversity in the montane zone of Mt. Sibuatan protected forest area has been conducted. Mosses (Musci) are the group of bryophytes which can be distinguished between stems, leaves, and rhizoids, without oil body on their leaf cells. The objectives of this research were to recognize the kinds of mosses, particularly above 5 cm tall in the Mt. Sibuatan protected area, to provide the information about the types of large moss to the public, and to give additional data of bryophytes diversity, specifically in Sumatra. The research was carried out by exploring the area along Nagalingga route, while the specimen was collected by purposive sampling method at 1800-2457 m asl. The identification was conducted at the laboratory of Cibodas Botanic Gardens. Herbarium specimens which have been identified were deposited in the Cianjur Herbarium Hortus Botanicus Tjibodasensis (CHTJ). The results show that there were 10 types of large moss which found in the montane forest of Mt Sibuatan. The species was dominated by Dicranaceae (four species), Hypnodendraceae (two species), Leucobryaceae (one species), Polytrichaceae (one species), Sematophyllaceae (one species), and Sphagnaceae (one species). Most of the bryophytes were the new record for North Sumatra. Additionally, Symblepharis reinwardtii (Dozy & Molk.) Lac. has status as new record for Sumatra.
