Abstract
Abstract Oil film plays a key role in lubrication. However, the distribution of oil film on work piece and rollers is not clear. In order to explore the regularities of distribution on oil film, cold rolling experiments were conducted by Ф400/170 × 300mm 4-high millers. Ellipsometry measurement was used to measure oil film thickness. The results show that 60 percent of oil deposits on work piece and the rest 40 percent remains on the rollers, which differs from the equal distribution assumption that is usually thought. Furthermore, parameters which can affect oil film thickness were analyzed. The relationships among oil film thickness and concentrations of emulsion, viscosity of emulsion and maximum rolling pressure were investigated. The results have certain guiding significance to the choice of lubricating parameters and the determination of lubrication state.
