Mithchell, Walter E., Jr. Abstract In this paper a hydrostatic model of the solar photosphere is integrated in monochromatic optical depth at three infrared wave lengths, utilizing a recent determination of the metals abundance, log A = 4.28. In the line-forming region the electron pressure is lowered approximately 50 per cent with respect to that in the modified Aller-Pierce model. There is good agreement between the models at x 8000 and X 11000 and the model at X 16000. Consequently, the present theoretical values for the freefree contribution to the negative hydrogen-ion absorption are probably not in error by any significant amount.
