Abstract

We find the distribution function for phonons injected into superfluid helium by a solid heater which is assumed to be in thermal equilibrium. Although the distribution is inhomogeneous it is found to have a quasiequilibrium shape in any given direction which is characterized by an effective temperature, i.e. the usual Bose-distribution multiplied by a factor characterizing the degree of deviation from a real equilibrium. The angular distribution of the injected phonons is obtained.
