Abstract
This monograph on the higher education system in Switzerland was realized in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Bureau of Education and Science. It is a follow-up to the monograph on Higher Education in Romania published in 1978 by the European Centre for Higher Education (CEPES [Centre Europeen pour l'Enseignement Superieur]). The interest provoked by this first monograph encouraged the CEPES to promote the development of a series of monographs on the higher education system in the various European member nations. To this end, the Centre established contact with the national committees of the European countries to solicit their cooperation in preparing the manuscripts for these monographs. The positive response received from the several member nations motivated us to pursue this undertaking.
