The Development of Gene Editing Technology and Its Application in Many Fields

Abstract

Gene editing technology is a kind of genetic engineering technology which can modify specific sites of the genomes. Besides, it is a technology that has sprung up in recent years to accurately edit genes of various organisms. It is one of the most helpful technologies in life science research and widely used in practical production, and it has been widely concerned and discussed all over the world due to its relation to gene- the basics of organisms. As a consequence, the 2020 Nobel Prize in chemistry was awarded to the two scientists who discovered the technology of gene editing. In this paper, we review the development and related principles of the new gene editing technology, focus on the application of the third-generation gene editing technology CRISPR/Cas9, and finally discuss and outlook the future development of gene editing technology.
