Abstract

>A method is described for determining oxygen in most elements by fast- neutron activation. Nitrogen-16 produced in the reaction O/sup 16/(n,p)N/sup 16/ with 14.5-Mev neutrons is detected by counting high-energy gamma rays. A wide variety of metals was analyzed, and results generally agree with those obtained by vacuum fusion. The limit of detection is about 10 ppm of oxygen. (auth)
