Abstract

AbstractA method is described for the determination of mercury in soils at the ppb level or greater. A simple digestion step, requiring no heat, is described. Determinations are made using an easily constructed apparatus for flameless atomic absorption. Soils from two states are studied for Hg content. Recoveries of mercury added to several soils ranged from 97.0 to 102.5%.
