Abstract
Abstract: Bounds for the eigenvalues of the matrix eigenvalue problem, Ax = λ Bx, A = AT, B = BT, B positive definite, are calculated by means of a new procedure which uses variational methods and an interval arithmetic. Furthermore, an eigenvalue problem with an ordinary differential equation is considered; guaranteed bounds for the smallest eigenvalues of this problem are presented.
