Abstract
While semantics is influenced by the deep structure as well as the surface structure, the study of the deep structure should not be ignored. Focusing on some human related Chinese synthetic compounds, this paper will study the derivational relation between the deep and surface structure. First, the human related synthetic compounds in N1-V-N2 style are first classified by their surface structure. It appears differently on different kinds of such compounds when we refer to the deep cognitive structure and the surface structural structure. Next, it is pointed out that there are certain connections of these two structures, and thus we add some details and certain revision to the previous study (Gu and Shen 2001) on these compounds. In addition, we discuss the other two approaches that analyze the formation of such nominal compounds.
