Abstract

Objective To study the variation and dependability of gastrin and motilin in blood and that in gastric juice and the correlation between the changes of these two after intervention by monitoring the levels of gastrin and motilin in blood and that in gastric juice in premature infants and intervening with non-nutritive sucking(NNS). Methods 60 appropriate for gestational age, premature infants who accepted intermittent nasogastric feeding(INGF)were randomly assigned into a non-NNS group and NNS group according to NNS.25 normal full-term infants were enrolled as controls. The gastrin and motilin in blood and gastric juice were detected by radioimmunoassay(RIA). Results The gastrin and motilin in gastric juice positively correlated with those in blood. The levels of gastrin and motilin in blood and gastric juice in N-NNS and NNS groups on the first, third and seventh day were lower than those of the control group ; There were significantly statistical difference of gastrin in blood and motilin in blood and gastric juice between N-NNS and NNS groups and the control group on the first day(P<0.05).The gastrin and motilin in blood in N-NNS and NNS groups were lower than those of the control group on the third day(P<0.05); The gastrin in blood of N-NNS group was significantly lower than that of NNS group(P< 0.05).The levels of gastrin and motilin in blood in N-NNS were significantly lower than those of control group and NNS group on the seventh day(P<0.05). Conclusions The gastrin and motilin in gastric juice positively are related to those of gastrin and motilin in blood. The gastrin and motilin in blood and gastric juice in premature infants are lower than those of full-term infants and are closely related to the functional disturbances of gastrointestinal tract.NNS could increase the secretion of gastrin and motilin. Key words: premature infant; gastrin; motilin; non-nutritive sucking
