Abstract
The discovery of upper and lower jaws of Heliscomys vetus Cope, an Oligocene heteromyid, that have deciduous premolars in addition to the permanent dentition provides information about the occlusal patterns of the deciduous teeth, and the place of these teeth in the developmental history of Heliscomys. The specimens consist of a fragment of right maxillary with dP4, P4-M3 (K.U. 10372), and a fragment of right jaw with dP,, P4-M1 (K.U. 10373) collected from silts of Middle Oligocene age in SW 1/4 Sec. 12, T 11 N, R 54 W, Logan County, Colorado. These specimens have been presented to the Museum of Natural History, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. An additional upper deciduous premolar was known and studied. However, this specimen was destroyed by accident.
