Abstract
This article is divided into two sections which provide an overview of the Decentralized Plan for Canadian Newspapers. The first section describes the history of the Plan, preparation for the division of responsibilities and the federal contribution The second section gives brief histories of each provincial and territorial application. The text emphasizes the common elements and some of the problems inherent in newspaper preservation management and the unique approach that each province/territory must take to manage its own program. Future directions are also indicated in the conclusion.
