Abstract
Rate constants have been measured for the relaxation of 12C 16O( v=1) by HD using the laser-induced fluorescence technique. Measurements have been taken in the gas phase between 150 and 35 K and in liquid D 2 solution at 25, 30 and 35 K. These complement recent investigations in this laboratory in which analogous studies of the 12C 16O( v=1)H 2 and 12C 16O( v=1)D 2 systems have been made. The behaviour of the 12C 16O( v=1)-HD system is similar to those of the other isotopic systems. However, the efficiency of HD as a collision partner is in excess of that which would be expected from the data for 12C 16OH 2 and 12C 16OD 2.
