Abstract

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of the equimolar molecular complex of semicarbazide with nitric acid has been determinated by X-ray diffraction method. The crystals are orthorhombic, space group P2t2t2t with cell parameters a = 12.85(1), b = 8.62(1), c = 4.76(3)A and four formal molecules per unit cell. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares to the final R = 0,161 for 414 visually estimated intensities collected on a Weissenberg camera. In the crystals both the semicarbazide and nitric acid molecules exist in ionic form [H2NCO NHNH3 +·NO3 −] and intermolecular hydrogen bonds are formed.
