Abstract

SummaryA comparison has been made of the long term stability and corrosion resistance of trivalent chromium deposited from a chloride based solution and hexavalent chromium deposited from a sulphate based solution. The work showed a difference in corrosion resistance between the two systems and has revealed the corrosion mechanism that caused the failure of the plated films. All the work was carried out on a brass substrate overplated with bright nickel to provide a substrate for the chromium deposit.
