Abstract
OSA patients and controls were of similar age, although body mass index (BMI) was slightly greater in patients (30.6 versus 26.3 kg/m, P 1⁄4 0:1). Four OSA patients had low 07:00 h total testosterone concentrations. All participants had the expected rise in testosterone overnight, but mean and area under the curve (AUC) total testosterone concentrations were significantly lower in the OSA patients. Similarly, mean and AUC LH were reduced in OSA patients versus controls. After adjusting for BMI, the mean LH and total testosterone differences between groups were of marginal statistical significance, although AUC remained different between the groups. RDI was significantly negatively correlated with LH-AUC and total testosterone-AUC, whereas degree of hypoxemia did not correlate.
