Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Androgens continue to circulate in physiologically relevant amounts in postmenopausal women. The androgen receptor (AR) gene, a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, contains a trinucleotide repeat sequence (CAG) in exon 1 that affects ligand receptor affinity; An increased number of CAG repeats decreases hormone sensitivity. The variation in CAG androgen receptor patterns, and their relation to metabolic and morphometric indices, has not been fully delineated in postmenopausal women.
