Abstract

The Copper-7 IUD is found to be safe in women with a chronic inflammatory process in the uterine cervix as well as in women developing acute cervicitis after some months of IUD use. Cytologically, the inflammatory reaction found in previously healthy women with clean mid-cycle smears before the insertion of the copper device is different from the chronic cervicitis with only a few histiocytes among the infiltrating leukocytes, and a coccal bacterial flora is a rule. Both groups are successfully treated with small daily doses of estriol.
