Abstract

Under the praesidium of the UkSSR Academy of Sciences a Scientific Council has been formed to deal with the complex problem of cybernetics. Its president is Academician V.M. The Council holds monthly meetings to discuss scientific and organisational questions concerning the development of research in the field of cybernetics and the introduction of the results obtained into the economy of the Republic. In 1962 the following reports have been read and discussed at the meetings of the Council: B.N. Malinovskii, “The Use of a Multi-purpose Controller for the Automation of the Control of Technological Processes” (January); A.A. Lyapunov, “Control Systems in Living Nature” (March); S.L. Sobolev, “Machine Decipherment of Ancient Maya Texts” (April); R.Kh. Zarinov, “Machine Experiments in the Composition of Music” (May); S.M. Gershenzon, “The Problem of Genetic Information” (June). A discussion was held in February on the theme “Information Problems in the Automation of Disease Diagnosis”. With the aim of coordinating more closely scientific research in the field the Council has organised a number of seminars for the Republic. The material of the meetings (reports, and short summaries or verbatim reports of the discussion on them) will be duplicated and sent to the participants in the seminar, interested organisations, institutions and individuals. Reports or communications to be included in the agenda of the seminars must be typewritten, with one copy. The reports of non-local participants can be read and discussed from the typewritten texts. We give below the titles of the seminars, with a short list of the questions to be discussed at their meetings.
