Abstract
Abstract Filtration of benzene solution of 7,11,22,23-tetrabromoergost-8-en-3β-yl acetate(XIX) through alumina causes partial dehydrobromination to yield a benzenoid product in yields surpassing 90%. Evidence is presented that this product is a 12-methyl-18 norsteroid and can be assigned the structure, 222,23-dibromo-12-methyl-18-norergosta-8,11,13-trien-3β-yl acetate(XX).
