Abstract

Wind power ramp events seriously affect the active power balance. On the other hand, system frequency stability is seriously weakened by large-scale wind power. Therefore, the stable operation of power systems is threatened. In order to effectively alleviate wind power ramp events and suppress frequency deviation, in this paper, the control strategy of energy storage system for primary frequency regulation and wind power ramp control is proposed. The control framework of wind farm and energy storage system is constructed. In this framework, wind power change is compensated by the charge and discharge of energy storage system to meet the demand of wind power ramp control. Besides, frequency deviation is suppressed through responding to frequency deviation signal by energy storage system. Therefore, the proposed control strategy can guarantee that energy storage system effectively participates in frequency regulation and alleviate the wind power ramp events simultaneously. Finally, simulation results on an interconnected two-area power system show the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy in restraining the wind power ramp and enhancing the frequency stability of the system
