Abstract

Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) carried out International Community Service (ICS) activities in the Southern Philippines region in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2022. The Community Service Program was held in several places such as Davao City, General Santos City, Glan, and Laensasi. This initiative is aimed at residents of Indonesian descent in the area. This paper discusses how the International Community Service activity contributed to the development and realization of the ASEAN Community, which became the organization's common purpose after it was adopted in 2009. In order obtain data, the author utilizes a descriptive qualitative research method that includes a literature review and participatory observations. According to the research findings, the ICS program contributes to the three aspects of the ASEAN Community. In the socio-cultural aspect ICS program enhances cooperation between ASEAN communities and disseminates Indonesian national culture for the formation of ASEAN identity. In the political-security aspect, this program reduces the potential of conflict with religious natures. In the economic aspect ICS helps increase the circulation of capital in the region and helps improve the PIDs economy.
