Abstract

Abstract This article attempts to explain why the current conflict in Gaza has happened through a brief history of conflicts in Gaza since 2005 and a discussion of more recent events, focusing on conditions such as inequality, dependency, political repression, ethnic divisions, and previous incidents of violence. The article also reflects on the US response to the situation, concluding that domestic political agendas and the influence of special interests have perpetuated the Gaza crisis.
