Abstract

The purpose of this study was to construct a professional competency framework for the marine leisure and tourism education in Taiwan. In order to meet the demands of tertiary institutions, marine leisure, marine tourism, water sports, for professionals in the marine leisure and tourism industry, this study considered it imperative to develop a framework of professional competency for marine leisure and tourism education. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) results showed that the academic experts emphasized basic knowledge in regard to marine leisure and tourism cultivation, performance competency, benefits of marine leisure and tourism activities, and marketing competency. The industry leaders focused on the safety management activities and competent operational abilities. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) results showed that the improvements in basic knowledge will contribute to the overall enhancement of professional competency.
