Abstract
Summary Geldenhuys, C.J. 1989. The conservation and utilization of South African evergreen forest and the need for avifaunal studies. Ostrich suppl. 14:63-69. A brief overview is given of the distribution and ecology of the South African indigenous evergreen forests. The systems applied in the management of the forests for their utilization and conservation are briefly described. Finally topics are suggested for bird studies which relate directly to the dynamics and conservation of the forests.
