Abstract
NATURE AND SCOPE: The essay seeks to review the Literature that is available on the economists’ conflicting viewpoints that have emerged from the 1998 US v Microsoft case. Part I has some background information needed to understand the economic aspects of the case. Part II reviews the literature available on the case regarding the economic aspects of the alleged anticompetitive behavior of Microsoft.LIMITATIONS: This project does not deal with in-depth economic analysis of the software market or the legal procedure of the case in question. It also does not deal with the remedies advanced by the Court in pursuance of its decision.RESEARCH QUESTION: What are the conflicting economic views on whether Microsoft was a monopoly in the relevant market and whether it had abused its monopoly and acted in an anticompetitive manner?
