Abstract
The Asilomar Conference on Computing in High Energy Physics took as its theme the Computing Environment. This summary paper attempts to give a broad perspective of the material presented at the conference, using a framework with an emphasis on the points of particular relevance for off-line computing by experimental high energy physicists. It can be used as an introduction and guide to the other papers or to give a relatively briefoverview of our computing environment.
