Abstract

Paeonia rockii (Paeoniaceae) is an endangered endemic species to China and it is the most important ancestral species of the cultivated tree peonies. Here, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of P. rockii was obtained by using Illumina pair-end sequencing. The complete cp genome of P. rockii was 152,821 bp, consisting of a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions (25,648 bp), a small single copy (SSC) region (17,048 bp) and a large single copy (LSC) region (84,477 bp). The chloroplast genome of P. rockii contained 131 genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes and eight rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the whole genome is 38.3%. Phylogenetic analysis of 23 selected chloroplast genomes revealed that P. rockii was closely related to Paeonia obovata and Paeonia sp. Sd0052.
