Abstract

Objective To compare the clinic effects of corneal iimbal stem cell transplantion and sim-ple pterygium excision plus mitomycin C on primary pterygium.Methods One hundred and two patients(122 eyes)were divided into two groups randomly.Corneal sfem cell transplant group included 50 patients(60 eyes), while comnon ptergium excision plus mito mycin C included 52 patients(62 eyes).Postoperative follow-up time was 1～2 years.Results The average epithelial recovering time of corneal wound were 4.0±0.8 days(stem cell group)and 7.3 ±1.7 days(mitomycin C group)respectively.The differences of two groups were sig-nificant(t =14.08, P <0.05).Two eyes relapsed in the stem cell transplant group(recurrence rate was 3.3%), and 14 eyes relapsed in the mitomycin C group(recurrence rate was 22.58%), the differences was significant(x2=9. 91 ,P <0.05).Conclusion The corneal limbal stem cell transplantion is an ideal surgical method on primary pterygium for the shorter time of recovering and lower rate of recurrence.
